BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Santa Barbara City College Track & Field team competed at the Bakersfield Relays and Multis this past weekend.
Unsurprisingly, Kiala Haas won two more of her events, including the 800 Meters (2:21.73) with 10 seconds to spare. She was also a member of the winning 4x400 Relay team with Serenity Jones, Syriah Jones, and Audrey Kobayashi (4:11.86) with 15 seconds to spare.
Kobayashi and Alina King won individual events, too. Kobayashi's 30.25-meter Discus throw beat second place by nearly three meters. She also came third in the High Jump at 1.35 meters. King clocked in with a 23:27.00 winning time in the 5000 Meters—the only runner to finish the grueling three-plus mile race. She also placed second in the Javelin with 22.74 meters.
Serenity Jones found the podium in an individual race, too. Her 12.85 was good for second in the 100 Meters. Syriah Jones was .06 off a podium finish, placing fourth in the 200 Meters (27.22).
Kaylee Lawson ended the day second in the Heptathlon with 3,410 points. Out of four competitors, she placed first or second in all but one event, winning the 100 Meter Hurdles (17.96) and High Jump (1.50 meters).
On the men's side, Beau Lantz was the standout performer. He had a second-place finish in the 100 Meters (10.92) and a third-place finish in the 200 Meters (21.67).
The 4x100 Relay team was a half-second from making the podium. Ozzy Rogers, Lantz, Sebastian Wanjiru, and Beck O'Hara clocked in at 43.59, good for fifth place.
Santa Barbara competes again next Friday at a WSC North meet hosted by Ventura College.
