Emily Foster and Malin Wallmon, two key members of the SBCC women's swim team, have accepted scholarships to swim for Colorado State University at Pueblo.
Foster, a sophomore from Dos Pueblos High, earned All-American honors in three relays – the 400 free, 800 free and 400 medley. The 800 free relay unit finished eighth in the state, shaving nearly nine seconds off their seed time.
SBCC took third in the WSC and 12th in the state in its first season of women's swimming. Colorado State-Pueblo, an NCAA Div. 2 school, will also be fielding its first women's swim team in 2015.
"I am so excited for my first two scholarship athletes," said Vaquero coach Chuckie Roth. "I am happy that both girls will have the opportunity to continue their swimming careers."
Wallmon, a freshman from Sweden, swam the second-fastest 50 butterfly on the team this year, clocking 29.74. She was eighth in the 100 breast at the WSC Finals and 11th in the 50 fly.
"Malin Wallmon is a hard-working swimmer who takes her swimming seriously," said Roth. "She witnessed huge drops in time at the end of the season. She will do well at the next level.
"Emily Foster grew up an avid swimmer at the Santa Barbara Swim Club attended a 4-year college out of high school before coming back to SBCC. By the end of the season, she had made enormous time drops.
"I am so proud of both girls and am equally proud that SBCC gave them the opportunity to prepare both academically and athletically."
